Authorities arrested 11 port security guards at Global Terminal in Jersey City and charged them with fraud and theft by deception, police said today.
The guards were arrested Tuesday night, said James Kevin McGowan, acting police chief of the Waterfront Commission of New York Harbor. Details of the alleged crimes have not been released.
Security guards at the port undergo background checks by the waterfront commission.
Global, on the border of Jersey City and Bayonne, is among the five largest cargo terminals in New York Harbor. It sits on New York Bay, across from Brooklyn.
