LONGSHOREMAN SUSPENDED AFTER ARREST IN JERSEY CITY FOR AGGRAVATED ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON AND OTHER CHARGES RELATED TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE INCIDENT

Longshoreman Juan A. Velez has been suspended by the Commission and a Notice of Hearing issued, after his arrest in Jersey City for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon ( a crime of the third degree), Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (a crime of the fourth degree), Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose (a crime of the third degree), Stalking (fourth degree), and Criminal Restraint (a crime of the third degree). Velez followed the victim in his automobile throughout Jersey City, rammed the victim's automobile with his, and threw the victim into oncoming traffic.
The Commission temporarily suspended Velez's longshoreman registration pending the outcome of an administrative hearing in the matter. The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office is prosecuting the criminal matter.
