Pier Superintendant Indicted for Conspiracy and Illegal Gambling - Bookmaking.

Maher Terminal Pier Superintendant Joseph Joel DiCosta was indicted by a federal grand jury on Conspiracy and Illegal Gambling - Bookmaking charges. The indictment charges that DiCosta and others managed an illegal gambling business involving sports betting from January, 2003 until January, 2011. The indictment seeks Criminal Forfeiture of any property derived from the proceeds of DiCosta's gambling business. The matter is being prosecuted by the United Sates Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York.
DiCosta's license as a Pier Superintendant was suspended by the Waterfront Commission after his arrest on these charges on December 9, 2011.
