Registration of Longshoreman Temporarily Suspended for Illegal Gun Possession

On November 3, 2020, the Waterfront Commission temporarily suspended the registration of Dameon Silas, age 37, of Roselle Park, pending the outcome of an administrative hearing. Silas has been a longshoreman since 2014. The suspension is the result of Silas’ arrest on October 28, 2020 at 3:30 a.m. in East Orange, New Jersey. According to the criminal complaint, Silas illegally possessed a loaded .40 cal. Glock handgun. He has been charged with Possession of a Weapon, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5, a second degree offense, Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose,N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4, a second degree offense, and Obstructing the Administration of Justice, N.J.S.A. 2C:29-1, a fourth degree offense.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is handling the criminal case against Silas.
