Port Watchman Temporarily Suspended After Arrest for Possession of Multiple Unlicensed Firearms and Ammunition

   The Waterfront Commission of New York Harbor temporarily suspended the license of Port Watchman Nicholas Remi, 51, of Staten Island, New York, pending the outcome of an administrative hearing related to his recent arrest. Remi had worked at Red Hook Terminals. The temporary suspension was the result of his arrest on September 2, 2020, in Staten Island, New York. Pursuant to a search warrant, the NYPD recovered multiple illegal firearms, including six assault weapons, four semi-automatic pistols, silencers and 84 assorted magazines and 2824 cartridges of assorted caliber ammunition in different areas of Remi’s home.

   Remi was charged by the Richmond County District Attorney’s Office with multiple felonies, including one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the First Degree in violation of New York Penal Law § 265.04(2), 10 counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree in violation of New York Penal Law § 265.03(1B), one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree violation of New York Penal Law § 265.03(2), six counts of Criminal Possession of an Assault Weapon in the Third Degree in violation of New York Penal Law § 265.02(7), one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree violation of New York Penal Law § 265.02(5I), three counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree violation of New York Penal Law § 265.02(2), 10 counts of Criminal Possession of a Firearm violation of New York Penal Law § 265.01-B(1), one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree violation of New York Penal Law § 265.01(1), five counts of Prohibition on Unfinished Frames or Receivers in violation of New York Administrative Code AC 10-312, one count of Unlawful Possession of Pistol or Revolver Ammunition in violation of New York Administrative Code 10-131-(i)(3), one count of Purchase and Possession of Ammunition and Ammunition Feeding Devices in violation of New York Administrative Code 10-306(d), and two counts of Certificates of Registration in violation of New York Administrative Code 10-304-(a).

   The Notice of Hearing charges that Remi does not possess the good character and integrity required for license as a Port Watchman and that the continuance of his license as a Port Watchman is inimicable to the public peace or safety within the meaning of the Waterfront Commission Act.
