Longshoreman Suspended from Working at Port After Arrest for Unlawful Possession of Handgun

Today, the Waterfront Commission temporarily suspended the registration of longshoreman Rashad T. Rodgers, 24, of Elizabeth, New Jersey, pending the outcome of an administrative hearing related to his arrest. On January 28, 2019, at approximately 2:00 a.m., Elizabeth police arrested Rodgers for Unlawful Possession of a Handgun. Rodgers is accused of possessing a loaded .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun without a permit. The weapon was recovered from his car he was driving. He was charged by criminal complaint with Unlawful Possession of a Handgun Without a Permit, in violation of N.J.S.A. § 2C:39-5B(1), a crime of the second degree. The Union County Prosecutor’s Office is prosecuting the criminal matter.
