LONGSHOREMAN SUSPENDED AFTER ARREST FOR ASSAULTING POLICE OFFICER AND ROBBERY

Today, the Commission issued a Notice of Hearing and suspended Vito Lavignani, a longshoreman employed by Global Container Terminals, as a result of his arrest on March 30, 2017, in Manhattan, for assaulting a police officer and committing a robbery. According to the Criminal Complaint Lavignani robbed a police officer of his cellular phone and then assaulted officers who attempted to arrest him. He was charged with the Class D felonies of Assault in the Second Degree and Robbery in the Third Degree.
The Commission temporarily suspended Lavignani’s registration as a longshoreman pending the outcome of an Administrative Hearing. The New York County District Attorney’s Office is prosecuting the criminal matter.
