LONGSHOREMAN SUSPENDED FOR ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF HANDGUN AND POSSESSION OF A LARGE CAPACITY AMMUNITION MAGAZINE

Longshoreman Johnnie Taylor has been suspended by the Commission and a Notice of Hearing has been issued after his arrest in East Orange, New Jersey for Possession of a Weapon (NJSA 2C;39-5B), a second degree offense and Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Magazine (NJSA 2C: 39-3j), a fourth degree offense. Taylor was stopped after the car he was driving was observed swerving across the road and running through a stop sign. Police observed a Smith & Wesson .9 mm. handgun with a 15 round clip on the front seat of the vehicle. Taylor was the sole occupant of the vehicle. Taylor is the former vice president of ILA Local 1588.
The Commission temporarily suspended Taylor’s longshoreman registration pending the outcome of an Administrative Hearing on the matter. The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is prosecuting the criminal matter.
